The year 2020 will be significant for nurses and midwives internationally. The bicentenary of the birth of Florence Nightingale and the designation of 2020 as the World Health Organisation’s Year of the Nurse will celebrate the profession of nursing and also allow for a new focus on the future role of nurses in the 21st century.

CHIME International is working with UK nurse organizations to deliver two education programs for nurse leaders in 2020. CHIME will deliver digital leadership training to 70 nurses from the Florence Nightingale Foundation’s prestigious scholarship program, including nine digital scholars funded by Health Education England’s Building a Digital Ready Workforce initiative. CHIME is also working with the Burdett Trust for Nursing to offer Digital Clinics to nurse leaders who specialize in conditions such as autism and Asperger’s Syndrome well as mental health nursing.
More than 200 senior nurses in the UK will benefit from these two educational programs in 2020. CHIME is honored to serve nurse leaders in this landmark year for the profession, and it is fitting that CHIME is working in the UK, the home of Florence Nightingale, in the bicentenary of her birth. The Year of the Nurse will focus on the role of nurses in tackling 21st Century health challenges, and CHIME’s thought leadership and expertise will help nurse leaders make the most of digital health innovation to improve patient care.

International Digital Nurse Education
The WHO has published a Global Strategy on Digital Health 2020-2024 and established its first Digital Health Department.
CHIME International leadership training for CNIOs
CHIME International is working with two leading nurse and midwife organisations to deliver digital leadership training to senior nurses and midwives across the UK.
Our April and May programmes were postponed during the COVID-19 lockdown and we are now working to find alternative dates when conditions allow for it to be safe to train in-person. Until then, we are working on Ignite our bespoke online educational platform where we are starting the nurse and midwife education programmes.
The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the vital role of nurses at every level of the health and care system. Nurses of all specialisms have shown how resilient, adaptable and courageous they are when caring for their patients and working in dynamic teams. In responding to the pandemic many NHS and care organisations have introduced digital health solutions quickly and effectively to support healthcare professionals and nurses have quickly incorporated new technology into their practice.
CHIME International supports the digital transformation of health and care through leadership training, networks and continuous education. We are thrilled to have these training commissions from Florence Nightingale Foundation and The Burdett Trust. We embrace the opportunity to support our nurses now with our online education platform and eventually with our powerful in-person events.
Florence Nightingale Foundation
In response to national and international programmes in the NHS in England to raise leadership capability to support digital transformation in health and care settings the Florence Nightingale Foundation is including digital leadership training into its annual scholarship programme for this first time in 2020.
More than 60 scholars in three cohorts – Emerging Leaders, Aspiring Nurse Directors and Senior Leaders, will take a one-day course titled ‘Introduction to Digital Leadership’ as part of their introductory residential week at the start of the scholarship year in April 2020, and in subsequent years.
The Foundation is also offering an optional three-day course on digital leadership skills that will be included in the menu of options that Nightingale Scholars can choose from when they build their personal scholarship programmes. This will also be taught by CHIME which is creating a bespoke digital nurse leader curriculum with input from international and British CNIOs.
Health Education England, the system regulator, has provided funds to fully sponsor nine Digital Scholars to join the Foundation’s scholarship programme in 2020 and NHS Wales is sponsoring two Digital Scholars. These 11 Digital Scholars will automatically take the CHIME three-day Digital Leadership course early on in their scholarship.
The Burdett Trust for Nursing
CHIME International was successful in a grant application to train 75 Registered Nurses specialising in learning disabilities in three digital clinics. These will take place in the north and south of England and in Wales for those nurses from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
